Overview
In this course, you’ll explore the art of tying streamer flies inspired by the Rangeley Lakes region of Maine, a style renowned for its effectiveness and historical significance in fly fishing. This method was popularized by legendary anglers and fly dressers like Herb Welch, Carrie Stevens, and Joseph Stickney. Rangeley streamers are characterized by their use of long-shanked hooks and unique feather combinations, often incorporating materials like bucktail, turkey, and various exotic feathers. These streamers are designed to imitate baitfish and other aquatic prey, and their striking, elongated shapes are perfect for enticing predatory fish such as brook trout and landlocked salmon. By the end of this course, you’ll have a solid understanding of the techniques, materials, and design principles that make these flies so iconic.
